The Crazy Life of a Small Business Owner
Life as a small business owner is a contradiction in terms. Most days, are pretty unremarkable. And they're unrelenting at the same time. I know that doesn't make sense, but let me explain.
The summer months in particular bring a period of quiet. Our order book is not as full as it normally is, yet we're preparing for the months ahead, when we (hopefully) will experience our busiest time of year. Our heads are full of ideas for new products, research and design is in full swing, we're searching current and future trends, sourcing products from the best suppliers, and trying to stay on top of social media, which in itself, is a full time job! All that and we still have the priorities of family life and running a house to factor in as well. The days are, as the song claims, lazy, hazy and crazy!
One of the strangest things about our job is having to create Halloween products in July. I know, it's more than three months away, and nobody else wants to think about it but we have to start planning these products months in advance, so that we can have them ready to sell by the time the spooky season rolls around. And all the while, the big event is looming and Christmas is very much on our minds too!
Another challenge we face is staying relevant. The market is constantly changing, and we have to keep up with the latest trends in order to stay competitive. This means that we're always learning new things and trying new techniques. Sometimes, we're successful and the sense of achievement can be so rewarding. More often than not, though, there are tears, tantrums and sleepless nights, as we try to figure out what went wrong and how we can fix it. We want to offer our customers only the very best and that takes a long time to achieve.
Despite the challenges though, we love creating unique and special gifts that people will cherish for years to come. And we love the feeling of knowing that we're helping people celebrate the special moments in their lives.
Of course, running a small business is also tough in the current economy. People are feeling the pinch, and they're not spending as much money as they used to. This can make it difficult to stay afloat, but we're determined to make our business work, both for our family and our customers.
We know that we're not alone in this struggle. There are millions of small businesses out there that are facing the same challenges. But we believe that if we all work together, we can help each other succeed. One of our favourite things about running a small business is that every order placed means we get to support other small businesses too, as we source the supplies we need from them. And the genorosity and support within the small business community is unmatched!
So if you're looking for a unique and special gift, please consider shopping with a small business. Your support means the world to us!
And if you're not able to shop with us, please show your support in other ways. Share our social media posts, leave us positive reviews, and tell your friends and family about our business. Even the smallest gesture can make a big difference!
Thank you all so much for your support!
With love and gratitude,
Team RoRo, xx
